What is ABA?

If they can’t learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn.Founding ABA Principle

ABA isn’t a one-size-fits-all therapy; it’s a unique, scientifically-based approach to bring out the best in each of us.

The goal of ABA, or Applied Behavioral Analysis, is to understand what does or does not lead to learning, maintaining, and using skills for each individual. Applied Behavior Analysis is based on the science of behavior that focuses on improving specific behaviors, such as social skills, communication, behavior, and academics as well as adaptive learning skills. By using ABA, we strive to teach the prerequisites to make it possible for a child to learn naturally, and without intervention, from their daily environment.

Applied Behavioral Analysis is supported and recommended by many notable organizations, including:

Why use ABA?

ABA is the most effective, evidence-based treatment for individuals with autism and developmental delays. With over 60 years of past and continuing research, ABA is backed by the American Medical Association, the US Surgeon General, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Neurotypical children learn without intervention by observing and imitating in their daily lives; the environment they are born into provides the right conditions to learn language, play, and social skills.

After a few years, however, this breaks down, and we no longer learn everything ‘naturally’ — it takes a structured environment, for example, for most of us to learn to do math, read, and write.

Oftentimes, an autism diagnosis goes hand-in-hand with difficulty learning from the natural environment. However, with very specific and targeted teaching practices, observation, interpretation, and imitation can become part of a child’s repertoire, enabling them to learn throughout their daily life.

PLAN ABA ensures that we arrange the environment to enable our kids to learn.
